PCMM GATE CONTROL API
SDK that provides high-level APIs to implement the QoS control components of Application Manager, Policy Server and the CMTS.
Delivery of multimedia services over different access technologies is a challenge faced by service providers. Guaranteed quality of service (QoS) is a prerequisite for many services like telephony and streaming video. IETF's Policy Based Management Framework provided a basis for developing standard based solutions for QoS control. Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs ®), the standard making body of the packet cable industry, has outlined a policy management framework.
PCMM GATE CONTROL API is based on Packet Cable Multimedia Specification (Sept 2004) from CableLabs. This is a Software Development Kit (SDK) that provides high-level APIs to implement the QoS control components of Application Manager, Policy Server and the CMTS. Using this SDK, Policy Decision Point (PDP) and Policy Enforcement Point (PEP) can be developed.
Features
- Complete COPS protocol implementation.
- Power set of API that support creation, modification and deletion of “Gate” objects.
- Support for Application Manager, Policy Server and CMTS side PDP and PEP development.
- Logging and Tracing functionality.
- Support for event-driven programming.
Benefits
- Cable Labs defined standard interfaces ensure seamless interfacing with:
- Content providers
- Equipment from multiple vendors
- Product enables centralized, dynamic control over the service.
- Service to individual subscriber can be turned on or off from the management station.
- Differentiated service can be provided to customers. For example, service providers can introduce classes of services like (Gold : Allows VoIP, VoD, Internet access, Silver: PPV, regular channels, Basic)
- On-demand provisioning of additional services, possibly on a short-term basis.
- Standard compliant interfaces make the equipment more attractive to service providers.
- COPS support makes the CMTS more manageable, allowing the service providers deliver more services.
SDK Requirements
- PDP and PEP SDK currently supported on Red Hat Linux 8.0 or above.
