Radiology Information System (RIS)

Radiology departments have unique and complex needs in the modern healthcare scenario. They have to track patients, manage work lists for the technologists and radiologists, transcribe radiology reports and more importantly handle ever-increasing volumes of data.

Challenge

The client wanted a Radiology Information Systems product that handled the entire business flow within their Radiology department. Their primary requirement was a solution with features such as radiology order entry, check-out and check-in for film tracking, transcribing radiology reports, interfacing with PACS system.

Solution

Calsoft Labs developed a Radiology Information System (RIS) that helps the client’s technologists and radiologists work smarter by providing them with a streamlined workflow to process imaging studies efficiently in both film-based and filmless environments.

Within the RIS system, technicians can enter and complete orders, film librarians can check out and check in films from their facility as well as from other facilities. Additionally, the system also allows radiologists to review transcribed reports. The RIS system can interface with most commercial PACS systems.

The entire work process is paperless and conducted with the aid of onscreen work lists, barcode scanners, extensive film jacket maintenance tools, one-click access to patient history, electronic signature, and transcription documents. Results are sent seamlessly to the patient’s electronic medical record and charges automatically flow to the patient’s bill. The system generates numerous productivity reports, based on user-selected criteria.

The system is HL7 and DICOM compliant and integrates with other Hospital Information Systems products. Other key features of the Radiology Information System include:

  • Radiology can define exams with number of films used, billing details, procedure types, Body types, exam room and preparations
  • Ability to perform the exam and record details
  • Tracking of repeat and waste films identifies potential process improvement and training needs
  • Ability to view or enter transcribed result, multi level signing
  • Voice Recognition for Transcription
  • Smart-logic functionality allows users to efficiently track master jackets
  • Auto faxing and printing of order requisition, Master Jacket, Sub Folder and Film Labels
  • Productivity statistics

Benefits

  • Optimum and efficient use of staff resources
  • Detailed, accurate, reliable reporting
  • Completely paperless
  • Easy interfacing with PACS Systems
  • Seamless Integration with other Hospital Information Systems products
