HP JetSend Technology (device to device Communication protocol) in devices like printers and scanners

JetSend is a device-to-device communication protocol developed by HP that lets devices like scanners, digital cameras and printers interact with each other without having to go through a computer.

Business Scenario

HP wanted to extend the reach of JetSend technology by enabling Applications on Microsoft's PC and Windows CE to leverage JetSend services.

HP wanted to outsource this initiative to a technology partner so that HP resources can continue to extend the power of JetSend technology in HP devices like Printers and Scanners.

Calsoft Labs's Product Services for HP

Calsoft Labs was selected based on the technology expertise and the customer service quality. Initially, a fax gateway product was developed on Windows platform to demonstrate the interoperability of JetSend devices with existing devices using PC-based Gateways. This also led to the development of JetSend protocol stack on Windows Platform. HP and Calsoft Labs showcased the resulting product jointly in COMDEX FALL ’99. The development was carried out in Calsoft Labs's Offshore Development Center in Chennai, India.

The success of this endeavor resulted in Calsoft Labs playing a major role in HP's JetSend initiatives like:

  • Conducting developer training and evangelizing JetSend in Developer Conferences in Silicon Valley.
  • Providing Product Support for JetSend on HP's behalf.
  • The support included e-mail and phone support for the product line.
  • Performing Development Services for OEMs to extend the reach of JetSend technology.
  • Performing Quality Assurance Services like extensive testing for device interoperability, and multiple platform-support
  • Extending the reach of JetSend into Windows CE platform

Our Offshore Development Services for JetSend have received great appreciation and continued business from HP. Atul Bhatnagar, General Manager - Information Appliance Operation, Hewlett Packard commented that: “HP is very happy to have Calsoft Labs as an HP JetSend technology developer. Calsoft Labs's MS-Windows development expertise and resources help speed up the integration of HP JetSend technology into widely useful software components.”

Benefits

  • The core team in HP could focus on other technology initiatives.
  • HP could extend the reach of JetSend into Microsoft platforms without substantial cost investment.
  • HP could get alternate resources for Product Support as well as Development Services for OEMs embracing JetSend technology.
  • HP could experiment with different proof-of-concept implementations without substantial cost implications.
