Company
U-Eyes Media Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Inc is a leader in wireless technology, delivering digital video and flash content displayed on a LCD screen using cellular digital network services and a Web-based Broadcast Portal to remotely control the system.
Challenge
The requirement of the client was to port the Standalone and Active-X Plug-in versions of Flash Player 7 SDK to the device running on Windows CE 5.0 OS. This device is used for advertising. The task was to port the Standalone Flash Player and then customize the Plug-in Player to be an Active-X control which can be used in any application.
Solution
The client invited Calsoft Labs to port Flash Player onto their advertising machine device running on Windows CE 5.0 operating systems based on Calsoft Labs's expertise in similar porting works.
A team consisting of a Project Leader and a Senior Architect was assigned for this task. The first and final release was ready in less than one month.
The major challenges were to improve the performance of the player. As the client wanted to use multiple SWF files playing in the same flash window, the flash code had to be fine tuned to the maximum extent to improve the performance of the player. At the same time an interface had to be provided through the usage of FSCommands to enable the client to control the ported player from outside environment.
The other major challenge was to provide an Active-X like control of our flash player which can be used by any application as a general windows Active-X control. For this the existing flash plug-in code had to be modified, which was basically for IE on Windows.
Then the Automated Test Suite (ATS) was run on the developed Flash Player and all the issues identified during the testing were fixed. Along with the standalone Flash Player deliverable, Calsoft Labs submitted the test results to Adobe for certification of the ported Flash Player.
Result
With the Calsoft Labs team taking up the porting of Flash Player development work, the client was able focus on his core OS level changes / implementations which allowed them to showcase the end product in much less time. Timely delivery of the software enabled the client to meet his business goals as well.
