The Client is a strategic consulting, interactive marketing, design and advertising company.

Challenge

The requirement of the client was to develop innovative messaging system using RFID to greet a subscriber, by displaying the messages on a billboard placed over a freeway at a strategic location. The Solution should have administrative functionality, configurable messaging rules, display methods and diagnostic features.

Solution

The Client invited Calsoft Labs to develop Windows embedded based applications. The requirement was divided into modules based on their functionalities. The Modules were Subscriber Management, Messaging Node Management, Message Builder, Server Components and Node Components.

Subscriber Management

  • Manages subscribers
  • Captures special messages of the subscribers

Node Management

  • Manages Nodes
  • Configures intervals for synchronization of data
  • enerates real time reports based on the diagnosis on the node(s)

Message Builder

  • A query builder interface to define the messages
  • Formats the messages

Server

  • Runs Web services
  • Establishes connectivity between the node and Database

Node

  • Applies Business Logic
  • Communicates between RFID, Server and Billboard
  • Monitors connectivity between RFID reader, billboard and server at fixed intervals of time

The RFID Readers are attached with a device (Node), which runs on Windows XP Embedded. The Readers are capable of detecting tags up to a range of 30 meters. The System enqueues the tags received, processes them using business rules, configures the message for the selected tag and displays it on the billboard.

The Node and Server applications are independent of communication modes. The Node uses .NET Remoting to access routines available in the server. GPRS Connectivity is used to establish connection between node and server.

Result

The team achieved the business objectives of the client, deployed the pilot program and received overwhelming appreciation.
