HP JetSend Fax Proxy
A JetSend proxy is a device that can communicate with JetSend appliances (or device) on one end and devices of another type on the other. Proxy translates between the JetSend protocol and non-JetSend protocols. This includes converting JetSend e-material data types to data types appropriate for a given proxy. A proxy has its own JetSend address (JMN – JetSend Multi-Network Address), which a JetSend sending device uses to establish a session. The sender must also pass the ultimate destination address to the proxy. This is known as the alias address and is specific to a given type of proxy. For example, a fax proxy will require a Fax number to be passed as the alias address. Proxies can also broadcast their presence to devices on their local sub-net.
The HP JetSend Fax Proxy serves as a link between the JetSend communications network and the fax communications network. The proxy allows JetSend-enabled sending appliances on a Local Area Network (LAN) to send across fax-jobs to the fax communications network transparently (as if the Proxy did not exist). With Infrared (IR)-enabling, the Proxy would also allow walk-up faxing. The HP JetSend Fax Proxy also allows access from JetSend-enabled appliances from across a Wide Area Network (WAN) to send across fax-jobs to the fax communications network. Such a scenario would require the sender to know the JetSend address of the Fax Proxy. This would allow sending a fax document across the Internet to a remote JetSend Fax proxy for local fax transmission.
First the sending appliance broadcasts for the fax proxy. The proxy then responds to the request by specifying its JetSend Multi-Network address (JMN)....
