Jetsend - Jini Gateway
This document provides a detailed explanation about the Jini-Jetsend integration. This encompasses the Jetsend-Jini Proxy, Jetsend Sender soft appliance and the Jetsend Receiver soft appliance. No discussion about the implementation of the sender and the receiver soft appliance has been provided (Please refer to the HP Jetsend SDK documentation for it). This document emphasizes more on the Jini integration with Jetsend.
A Gateway (proxy) act as a bridge between the Jetsend and Non-Jetsend worlds. Currently gateways for sending/receiving fax and emails do exist. This enable Jetsend devices to interact with the non-Jetsend devices. In-order to achieve this transfer of data between a Jetsend compliant device and a non-Jetsend compliant device a gateway is used, which by acting as an intermediary device collects data from one device and translates it into a form suitable for the other device. The following block diagram illustrates this pictorially
Jini is a framework that allows devices to federate. It's overall goal is to turn the network into a flexible, easily administered tool on which resources can be found by human and computational clients. Resources can be implemented as hardware devices, software programs, or a combination of the two. The communication mechanism (service protocol) between the resources and clients are left to themselves. Jetsend technology is one such communication protocol that allows devices to intelligently negotiate information exchange, without user intervention. The Jetsend protocol allows devices to identify a common data format and exchange data. Once the Jini technology has been used to identify the two devices, the Jetsend protocol can be used to transfer the information between them.
